It's all about first impressions: Take a long, hard look at the front façade. Your front door is like the cover of a book, so make sure it's glossy and pristine. Interesting fact: Red doors sell homes!
If the siding's still in good shape, a light pressure wash will brighten it up. Scrape, patch and repaint any peeling or flaking spots, and take the focus off of imperfections by using a matte or eggshell finish. Flaking paint can be a dealbreaker for some lenders today, so if you're planning to sell, you want to take care of it now. Lead paint laws in some states have gotten stiffer, so make sure your contractor knows how to comply.
